A Brief Catch Up and Some Plans
I have been very behind with writing on here so I thought I would begin again with a little update and a few of my favourite photos from this winter. And what better time to start than the beginning of Spring? A time of new life and fresh beginnings :)
It was definitely an odd Christmas for my family, my dad went in for heart surgery and was in hospital on the 25th December so we ended up letting Christmas Day pass us by without really marking it or celebrating it. My sister and I were helping with my parents business, which is a holiday let, while they weren't able to and both of us were ill through it. I’m always a bit tentative to share this sort of information but at the same time I want to be honest. The holiday season isn’t always magical and exciting. Last year was downright stressful and honestly I could’t wait for it to be over! After such a build up through all of December, it felt like a bit of a let down. And seeing so many people celebrating on social media felt quite depressing at times. I felt I should be having a good time - drinking, eating an being merry. But I just didn’t feel it.
I managed to avoid most of the frantic running around near Christmas, or most of the franticness associated with Christmas anyway. My family decided to not buy any presents and we didn’t have much in the way of Christmas food either. The franticness we dealt with was many intense change overs in the holiday lets and trying to deal with the stress of my dad having major surgery. And although my family were ignoring it mostly, Brochan’s family were still celebrating so we did have a Christmas dinner and crackers at least.
But apart from this we were treated to some beautiful weather in December! Snow, hoar frosts and clear cold days. I even saw my first ever cloud inversion which was so magical!
Into January and Brochan and I were getting ready for a 5 week trip around Scotland in our van. We were completely reconverting our van for the trip to make it more comfortable for the winter but this also meant we had a lot to get done before we left! You can see our whole conversion on YouTube if you are interested in it, and our Scotland trip.
So now we are at the end of our trip and back home, settling back into life here and the rhythm of work and being sedentary again.
I hope to get back to writing on here more, I really enjoy sharing my photos, findings and thoughts. And although I keep up with instagram, it is such a fast paced space and I quite like the slower pace of blogs :)
My plan is to write a little about the van trip and I also have some ideas of walking tips, gear tips and I’ve been doing some research into sustainable outdoor clothing. The researching part can take a lot of time on the sustainability posts so these kinds of posts do delay me a bit!
Anyway here a few photos from the last couple of months, I have only chosen a few of my favourites but I hope you enjoy and I will be back soon with another post ;)
